The representatives of Town Twinning from Chantilly were given a warm welcome by the Epsom and Ewell Twinning Committee at Bourne Hall when they arrived around lunchtime on Saturday 29th September. They came over to help the Borough celebrate its 75th anniversary and stayed with local hosts for the Saturday night. They were taken to the Rotary Fun Day at Hook Road Arena for the afternoon, and then to the Mayor’s banquet for dinner. On Sunday, everyone went to view the new model of Nonsuch palace at Nonsuch Mansion House, accompanied by Jeremy Harte, Curator of Bourne Hall Museum, and were given a guided tour by Gerald Smith, M.B.E., Chairman of the Friends of Nonsuch. We then met for brunch provided by the local association and thence to the Downs for an afternoon’s racing. Not only was this appropriate, given the racing connections between the two towns, but also because they were presenting the prizes for the apprentices race, named after Chantllly in honour of the twin status.
